Government of Armenia approves draft decision about proposals on constitutional amendments
At the session today the Armenian government approved the draft decision to accept government proposals regarding the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia.
Deputy Justice Minister Arsen Mktrchyan said the draft summarizes the proposals of various departments concerning the draft new Constitution of Armenia.
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said for his part that yesterday he along with minister-chief of the government staff, deputy PM, and acting justice minister discussed the draft-related proposals for 6 hours. In his words, proposals of all the departments were examined, and some of them are worth considering.
“We will hold discussions with the parliament, with the heads of ministries also participating in them. We will try to come to an agreement and then I will sign the draft to be sent to the parliament,” PM said.
To remind, President Serzh Sargsyan submitted on August 21 the draft amendments in the Constitution of Armenia to the National Assembly. The draft amendments had been developed by the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President.
Vardan Poghosyan, a member of the Commission, has been appointed as official representative of Armenian President for presentation of the draft amendments to the Constitution in the National Assembly of Armenia. The head of state also instructed the Commission on Constitutional Reforms under Armenian President to continue the dialog with the Venice Commission (VC) over those issues indicated in the VC’s preliminary opinion, around which no agreed solutions have been found so far. Besides, last week Serzh Sargsyan has held consultations on the approaches stated in the draft new Constitution with representatives of various parties.
