4% economic growth recorded in Armenia in first 6 months – PM on statistical data
Prior to the government session today, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan commented on National Statistical Service-released economic growth data for the first half of 2015.
Statistical data shows that Armenian GDP grew by 2.5 percent in the first quarter of this year, followed by 5.1 percent growth in the second quarter. As a result, economic growth averaged 4 percent in the first six months.
“Amid a decline in remittances from abroad, growth recorded in the agricultural sector is of particular importance as it seriously offsets the decline in the purchasing power of citizens due to external factors - in addition to the diversity of our exports,” H. Abrahamyan said.
He added that export volumes have also increased. The PM instructed the heads of departments responsible for various sectors of the economy to provide the public with detailed information about economic results of the first half of the year.
