Violent storms leave two dead in southwest France
Two people were killed in France on Monday after violent storms hit the southwest of the country and caused electricity cuts and heavy damages in the region, Reuters reported.
Trees were uprooted, cars and roofs were damaged in Montauban near Toulouse where the storm was the strongest with gales going over [60 mph].
A Bulgarian lorry driver was killed in a parking area in the Charente area in the south west, while a young woman was killed in the nearby Tarn et Garonne department when a tree fell on her car.
Eighty-seven thousand homes in the region were still without power on Tuesday and access to many roads was cut off.
The storm also provoked a large explosion in a factory in Montauban after a tree fell on a gas tank.
Fire-fighters said they were called for 1200 operations in the southwest region over the course of the night.
