Fragment of aurochs bone found at bottom of Lake Sevan in Armenia
A fragment of what seems to be an aurochs’ bone, probably tens of thousands of years old, has been found on the bottom of Lake Sevan in Armenia, about 6-7 meters beneath the surface, the head of Ayas dive club Rafael Mkrtchyan said at a press conference today.
Doctor of Biological Sciences Nina Manaseryan said for her part that a special analysis is required to learn more about the fragment, but the bone may be destroyed during the analysis and in that case the finding, which is the first of its kind in the region, will be lost forever.
Another participant in the press conference, dive club instructor Artak Almasakyan said other fragments of the skeleton could be discovered at the bottom of Sevan.
