Armenian serviceman killed as Azerbaijani side opens fire
Armenian contract serviceman Hayk Devoyan, 40, was killed as Azerbaijani troops opened gunfire yesterday, on September 2. The incident took place in the northeastern direction of the border, Armenian Defense Ministry’s spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan said at a press conference today.
In his words, yesterday Armenian frontline positions, in particular those in Tavush province, were under intense gunfire of Azerbaijani troops, and heavy fire continued until late at night along the entire line of contact.
Azerbaijan used small arms of various calibers, large-caliber machine guns, 60 mm and 82 mm mortars, and snipers.
“The enemy’s activity was suppressed as a result of actions the Armenian side took in response,” A. Hovhannisyan said adding that the situation is under control.
The Azerbaijani army suffered losses in the past two days, the defense ministry spokesman said.
