Israel Philharmonic with legendary conductor Zubin Mehta to perform in Yerevan today
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and its legendary conductor Zubin Mehta will give a concert in Armenia’s capital today, on September 3, as part of ‘Yerevan Perspectives’ 16th International Music Festival.
Composer Stepan Rostomyan, the founder and artistic director of the festival, said at a press conference on September 2 that prior to the concert the Israel Philharmonic will visit Yerevan’s Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.
The world-renowned conductor Zubin Mehta said for his part that he considers the Armenian nation talented. “It is a great honor for me to visit Armenia for the first time. It is an honor not only for me, but also for the orchestra,” he added.
Mehta said his father was a pupil of violinist and violin teacher Ivan Ghalamian whom he regarded as one of the great teachers.
