Investigative Committee opens case into murder of contract serviceman H. Devoyan due to Azerbaijani actions
Investigative Committee of Armenia (IC) opened a criminal case in connection with murder of Armenian contract serviceman Hayk Devoyan. The case was opened under Criminal Code’s Article 104 part 2 points 6 and 13 (murder out of ethnic, racial or religious hatred or religious fanaticism, committed in a way dangerous to lives of many people). An investigation is underway, according to the press service of IC.
Defense Ministry’s spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan said at a press conference earlier today that Armenian contract serviceman Hayk Devoyan, 40, was killed as Azerbaijani troops opened gunfire yesterday, on September 2. The incident took place in the northeastern direction of the border. In his words, yesterday Armenian frontline positions, in particular those in Tavush province, were under intense gunfire of Azerbaijani troops, and heavy fire continued until late at night along the entire line of contact. Azerbaijan used small arms of various calibers, large-caliber machine guns, 60 mm and 82 mm mortars, and snipers. “The enemy’s activity was suppressed as a result of actions the Armenian side took in response,” A. Hovhannisyan said adding that the situation is under control. The Azerbaijani army suffered losses in the past two days, the defense ministry spokesman said.
