Futile efforts of Azerbaijani troops: Residents of Armenian border villages not in a panic
Armenian MP of the opposition faction ‘Armenian National Congress’ (ANC) Nikol Pashinyan visited today several border villages of Armenia. On his Facebook page, he wrote about the situation and the mood of local residents.
After his trips to the villages of Berkaber and Nerkin Tsakhkavan, N. Pashinyan wrote: “It is hard to believe that these villages came under heavy gunfire last night. Women in Berkaber were sweeping yards and making jams at gunpoint, while men were engaged in assessment of the damage caused by gunfire or were preparing firewood for winter. Some of the villagers played backgammon. In Nerkin Tsakhkavan people were painting a drain pipe, talking animatedly. All the cafes along the road were open.”
The MP then visited Sarigyug, Vazashen and Sevkar villages.
The spokesman for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan said at a meeting with journalists earlier today that there was heavy gunfire from positions of Azerbaijani troops Thursday evening, September 3. The Azerbaijani side used small arms of various calibers and mortars at the border with Armenia and on the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan. In his words, Azerbaijan stopped firing late at night after the Armenian side took actions in response. The ministry spokesman said three civilians in Vazashen community of Armenia’s Tavush province and a contract serviceman were wounded by Azerbaijani fire. They were hospitalized as they received light wounds and are now out of danger.
