Sergey Minasyan: There is nothing new in Azerbaijan’s actions
In the last 10-15 days Azerbaijan has been trying to escalate tension occasionally on the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, thus sending messages to Armenian society and the international community, the political scientist Sergey Minasyan told a press conference today, noting that the Azerbaijani side attempts to influence the sides through such actions.
In his words, Azerbaijan is trying to add seriousness to its military-political situation, but sometimes it falls into its own trap.
“Unfortunately, the dynamics of using by Azerbaijan of new types of weapons and ammunition such as 125 mm mortars and Turkish-made TR-107 rocket launchers is also increasing,” Minasyan noted adding that despite this, there is nothing new in Azerbaijan’s actions.
Intelligence officer Vova Vartanov, a participant in Khojalu liberation operation, recalled for his part that on November 12, 2014 as a result of a ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan, MI-24 helicopter of the armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh Republic was shot down during a training flight in the airspace over the eastern section of Karabakh-Azerbaijani border. According to him, the current escalation has coincideded with Independence Day of Nagorno Karabakh and the military drills.
