Hovik Abrahamyan: Armenia plans to assist with establishment of EAEU’s dialog with EU
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended a meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) held in Grodno, Belarus today on September 8, the press service of the Armenian government said.
The delegation led by the Armenian PM was composed of Deputy PM, Minister of International Economic Integration and Reforms Vache Gabrielyan, First Deputy Minister Suren Karayan, and Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan.
A meeting of prime ministersof the EAEU member states took place in Grodno, followed by an enlarged meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of EUEU.
The PMs of EAEU countries discussed a wide range of issues related to integration cooperation, in particular the main directions of industrial cooperation, ensuring macroeconomic and financial stability, formation of a single service market, and development of relations with foreign states and international organizations.
Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan said in his speech that the Armenian side supports adoption of agreed documents which were included in the agenda and cover various spheres of cooperation within the framework of EAEU.
H. Abrahamyan said Armenia attaches importance to measures aimed at expanding and deepening of industrial cooperation within the framework of EAEU. In this connection the premier stressed Armenia’s experience and specialization and expressed the readiness of the Armenian side to provide a platform for Eurasian Engineering Center. In his speech, H. Abrahamyan underlined the importance of a coordinated exchange of experience in implementing macroeconomic and financial-credit policies.
When speaking about the importance of EAEU’s cooperation with the European Union, H. Abrahamyan said that Armenia, given the experience gained during its negotiations with the EU on trade and economic issues, plans to assist the Eurasian Economic Commission with establishment of a dialog with the European Union, which will contribute to mutually beneficial development of integration processes and ensure the principle of complementarity.
At the suggestion of H. Abrahamyan, a decision was taken to hold the next meeting of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Armenia.
At the conclusion of the meeting the prime ministers of EAEU member states signed over a dozen documents on cooperation regarding intellectual property issues, introduction of a system of excise duties on some goods, formation of a single service market, etc.
