Hraparak: It is still unclear what ethnic minorities to be represented in Armenian parliament
The draft new Constitution of Armenia envisages giving MP mandates to members of ethnic minorities. The Electoral Code will establish what minorities will be represented in the Armenian parliament, ‘Hraparak’ paper says.
According to the paper, on various occasions members of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms indicated 4 ethnic groups – Yazidis, Assyrians, Russians, and Greeks. In this connection the head of the Kurd community Knyaz Hasanov told ‘Hraparak’ that they will express their discontent in such a case.
“Yesterday he informed the newspaper that officials of the commission and the presidential administration told them that at the moment there is no definite decision about how will get a chance to receive a mandate of MP. The Commission member Gagik Ghazinyan also confirmed that they have not discussed so far the principles, according to which national minorities will be chosen, the number of mandates determined, etc.,” the paper notes.
