Sit-in on Baghramyan avenue dispersed, traffic opened (video)
Today around 5:30am at dawn the police unblocked the Baghramyan avenue in Yerevan, flow of traffic resumed. Activists of “No to plunder” initiative, who started a sit-in on the street since yesterday, have been relocated to the sidewalk areas by the police.
The police published a statement close to midnight on September 11, where it allowed the protesters, who did not notify the municipality in due manner, to run their rally till 5:00am in the morning. Despite the calls by the police to open the road traffic and public statements that closing the main avenue in the downtown is agains the law, around 60 protesters remained on the street and slept on the ground, some of them being detained by the police as the deadline passed.
The police published a new statement today, on September 12, after having dispersed the rally.
Around 48 protesters are detained, according to the statement.
