Zhoghovurd: Referendum on constitutional reform to be held on December 6
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan recently informed the leadership of Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) that he took a preliminary political decision whereby the draft new Constitution of Armenia shall be put to a referendum on December 6, ‘Zhoghovurd’ paper writes citing sources.
S. Sargsyan instructed the top members of RPA to start work on setting up referendum campaign offices, according to the newspaper.
“Debates of the draft new Constitution are expected to begin at the four-day parliamentary sittings that start next Wednesday. In case there will be not enough time for the parliament to conclude the debates and put the draft to the vote, then a vote on the document is likely to be organized on October 5-8 – during the next four-day sittings. By the way, it is already obvious the number of MPs opposed to the draft Constitution will reach a dozen at most,” the paper says.
