Presidents of Armenia and Tajikistan meet in Dushanbe
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a visit to Tajikistan to attend a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), met today with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the press service of the Armenian president reported.
The two Presidents discussed issues related to cooperation between Armenia and Tajikistan in bilateral and multilateral formats, in particular cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres, in CSTO and international organizations, and the opportunities of further strengthening of bilateral ties and implementing mutually beneficial programs. Serzh Szargsyan said the friendship of the two peoples and the current level of mutual understanding and respect between Armenia and Tajikistan has a firm basis.
Emomali Rahmon welcomed the Armenian president and said that Tajikistan is interested in continuing to develop the traditionally friendly relations with Armenia. President Rahmon attached importance to extending the legal contractual framework between the two countries, which he said will contribute to an increase in trade turnover.
The two sides stressed the importance of high-ranking mutual visits in terms of developing the bilateral relationship and carrying out the agreements reached at the high level. President Sargsyan invited his Tajik counterpart to pay an official visit to Armenia. The president of Tajikistan accepted the invitation with gratitude.
The heads of state exchanged opinions on issues on the agenda of the two countries, as well as regional and international problems and challenges to be addressed in detail tomorrow at the CSTO CSC session. The Armenian president presented Armenia’s and Minsk Group Co-chairs’ efforts on a peaceful solution to the Karabakh problem.
