Armenian president: CSTO steps on combating terrorism minimize threats
The steps taken by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to fight terrorism and extremism enable to minimize the threats and work out efficient mechanisms of combating them, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was reported by RIA Novosti as saying at the session of CSTO Collective Security Council in Dushanbe.
“Given the fact that the threat of terrorism that comes from terrorist organizations and groups remains one of the main challenges to international and regional security, the steps taken jointly will allow minimizing those threats and working out efficient mechanisms to fight them, “ S. Sargsyan said.
At the Dushanbe session of the CSTO Collective Security Council (CSC), the leaders of CSTO member states will adopt a statement on common approaches to the existing challenges and threats. Besides, over a dozen documents regarding the current activities of CSTO are expected to be adopted.
The CSTO has six member states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The previous session of the CSTO CSC took place in Moscow on December 23, 2014 when the presidency of CSTO passed to Tajikistan. Now Armenia is assuming the CSTO presidency.
