The Armenian parliamentary sittings held to discuss the draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia will be aired live by Public Television of Armenia, the speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Galust Sahakyan announced at the NA sitting today.
At the start of the National Assembly’s session the opposition faction ‘Armenian National Congress’ (ANC) demanded that parliamentary debates be aired live on TV.
Chairman of the Council of Public Television Ruben Jaghinyan said earlier today that in response to the request of the parliamentary speaker and given the importance of parliamentary debates on the constitutional reform, a decision was made about live broadcasts of the National Assembly sittings starting September 16, with the broadcast expenses to be covered by the TV company.
To remind, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan submitted on August 21 the draft amendments in the Constitution of Armenia to the National Assembly. On September 11 the draft amendments to the Constitution were put on the agenda of the plenary sitting of the parliament’s autumn session that starts on September 15 after the parliamentary standing committee on state and legal affairs gave a positive opinion on the draft . Serzh Sargsyan has already held consultations on the approaches stated in the draft new Constitution with representatives of various political parties.
