Constitutional reform necessary for country’s future, Armenian parliament speaker says
The constitutional reform is not a vital necessity for the authorities, the ruling party, or any other organization or political party, the Speaker of the Armenian parliament Galust Sahakyan said today in his speech at the special sitting of the National Assembly.
The speaker continued to say that the reform is necessary in terms of the future of the country, the society, and political forces.
In his words, the matter concerns not only tomorrow, as is claimed by some political figures. “No one should confuse the Constitution – the basic law of the state - with their own constitution,” G. Sahakyan said, stressing that the Constitution is not someone’s property, while the constitutional reform aims to strengthen the vitality of the country’s political arena.
‘The draft amendments to the Constitution should become a document aimed at promoting cooperation and solidarity of political forces, and not pushing them into a conflict because it is possible only in a united and tolerant society to join efforts and ensure sustainable development of the country,” G. Sahakyan said.
In his words, the constitutional reform in Armenia is being carried out in good time, given the geopolitical interests and opportunities of the country.
