Ex-assistant suspected in murder of military enlistment office head in Armenia
Arthur Mkrtchyan, 41 - who is a suspect in the murder of Derenik Papyan, the head of military registration and enlistment office in the town of Berd of Armenia’s Tavush province – is a former deputy of Papyan, Panorama.am has learned.
According to the press service of the Armenian police, the Tavush police unit received information from a hospital at 11:10 pm on September 18 that the body of Derenik Papyan, 49, was taken to the local hospital. The man died from gunshot wounds to the neck.
“The policemen who were sent to the scene have established that in the period from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm on the same day, there was a quarrel in the village of Movses, during which Arthur M. fired shots at D. Papyan from a 16mm two-barrel hunting rifle. Papyan died at the scene at 0:45 am, September 19. Arthur M. was found in the village of Movses and taken to the police unit. The rifle was seized. Forensic examinations are scheduled. An investigation is underway,” the police said in a statement.
Advisor to the chairman of Armenia’s Investigative Committee Sona Truzyan told Panorama.am that the crime was solved, the suspect was detained, and a criminal case is opened under Article 104 part 1 (murder) of the Criminal Code.
