Serzh Sargsyan: Our “Yes” vote created a miracle
Today, on September 21, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan hosted a reception to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic where, according to President’s press service, he delivered a congratulatory address to the nation.
Below are important excerpts from the address of the President: “This day on the calendar has its meaning not only for us, but also for the entire humankind. Whether a coincidence or a destiny, yet on this day when our people celebrate its willingness to live free and in peace, in the United Nations the International Day of Peace rings the bell. It pays tribute to the memory of all those who have died in the massacres of wars. The bells ring and remind us of the fundamental human right to live in peace and free from violence. The bells ring and demand ceasefire and peace for the children and the elderly, for the men and women”.
“Our consistent and loud reaction to the call for independence, our “Yes” vote created a miracle. It gave birth to that brave soldier who stands in just a hundred footsteps from coldblooded mercenary and zombie guerrilla fighter today”.
“The main bearing of September 21st, perhaps, is the price for our decisions for the generations and our responsibility for the future, that very trace which our deeds or inaction leave on the destiny of our kind. Whether as a crown or a stigma”.
“Facing crucial choices in this important milestone of Constitutional amendments, we, Armenians, shall be mindful of this bearing of September 21st. Whatever is your decision, dear compatriot, remember that your choice will affect not only your own future, but also the future of your children, the safety and welfare of your generations”.
“Standing in front of the gates leading to more developed systems of checks and balances, balancing the rights and responsibilities, I am sure we must be able to have courage to walk through the changes, to hear the demands of our times and get out of the fears towards something new. For the sake of coming generations. For the sake of a brighter future for our people”.
President Sargsyan also spoke about the lessons of revival and rebirth that the newly established independent Armenia shall take out of the first Genocide of the XX century, underlining, in particular, the importance of doing everything possible and even impossible not to allow the repetition of such crimes against Armenians, which the independent Republic is the first and foremost guarantor.
“September 21st is the symbol of our faith, our beliefs and our confidence. Long live Republic of Armenia!”, - President Sargsyan concluded in his address.
