Prime ministers of Armenia and China discuss Iran-Armenia rail construction and North-South Corridor projects
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met on September 22 the Premier of China’s State Council Li Keqiang in Beijing, the press office of Armenian government reported.
Welcoming H. Abrahamyan, the Chinese premiere thanked him for accepting his invitation to visit China and attend the Eurasian Economic Forum. He appreciated the current level of Armenian-Chinese relations and expressed confidence that the visit of Armenian premier to China will help develop and deepen cooperation.
PM Abrahamyan expressed his gratitude for the warm reception. He said the development of relations with China is a priority of Armenia’s foreign policy. He stressed the existence of great potential for cooperation in the economic sphere. H. Abrahamyan expressed confidence the visit will give fresh impetus to Armenian-Chinese ties and economic cooperation.
Noting that the political dialog between the two countries has been developing actively in recent years, the premiers appreciated highly the state visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to China in March. “I want to stress that based on the results of the meeting between the heads of Armenia and China, we actively work on promotion of bilateral ties in all spheres and implementation of the agreements reached,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.
The two premiers pointed out the importance of further cooperation and implementation of concrete joint programs in infrastructure, energy, transport, chemical industry, agriculture, tourism, science, education, culture, and civil aviation. In this connection the efficiency of work of Armenian-Chinese joint commission on trade and economic cooperation was pointed out.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted with satisfaction the progress made in trade and economic relations in recent years and an increase of commodity turnover by over half a billion dollars. Li Keqiang said for his part that there is efficient cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres, and China is prepared to deepen and strengthen it. The two PMs discussed in detail the investment programs of construction of Iran-Armenia railway and North-South Road Corridor. The Chinese premier confirmed the Chinese side’s interest in that issue. He expressed readiness to carry out joint programs in Armenia on infrastructure development as well as industrial, humanitarian and other spheres.
The premier of China’s State Council said that scholarships of Armenian youths studying in China will be raised next year.
At the conclusion of the meeting Hovik Abrahamyan invited the Chinese premier to pay an official visit to Armenia. The invitation was accepted.
