Pope Francis’ representative, Cardinal Sandri, to attend Blessing of the Holy Chrism in Armenia
Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in the Roman Curia (administrative apparatus of the Holy See), Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, will arrive in Armenia on September 23 to attend a unique church event: the rite of Blessing of the Holy Chrism will be celebrated in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on Sunday, September 27.
Cardinal Sandri will be on a five-day visit to Armenia.
On Thursday, the cardinal, together with the Catholicos Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics, Krikor Bedros XX, will preside over the consecration of the Holy Martyrs’ Church of Gyumri, according to the Vatican Radio website.
Earlier, on Monday, September 21, Cardinal Sandri celebrated a Holy Mass at the St. Blaise (Surp Vlas) Armenian Catholic Church in Rome on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.
