Armenian FM draws attention of OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs to flagrant ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan
On his arrival in New York for a working visit late Thursday, September24, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan met with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs Igor Popov of Russia, James Warlick of the United States, Pierre Andrieu of France, and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
The Armenian foreign minister expressed his outrage to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs over the latest flagrant ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, which resulted in civilian casualties.
“Azerbaijan has established a bad tradition of escalating the situation along the line of contact with Artsakh and the border with Armenia at any cost, even at the cost of human losses, ahead of important visits to the regions, high-level meetings, thus calling into question the expediency of such meetings and hindering the negotiating process,” E. Nalbandyan said.
Condemning strongly the killing of 3 Armenian citizens as a result of a ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan, Minister Nalbandyan said: “This next-in-turn provocation was Azerbaijan’s response to the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs that effective negotiations are expected between Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in New York”.
Possible steps to stabilize the situation were discussed at the meeting.
