Armenian MOD: Armenian armed forces to use adequate measures of targeting to support the peace process
«The Ministry of Defence of Armenia invites the attention of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen and the international community to observe the fact, that the use of heavy artillery by the Azerbaijani side for ceasefire violations on the Line of Contact creates a new situation, which is another step to move towards wider military actions», - the Armenian Defence Ministry said in a statement, released today, September 26, 2015.
The statement of the Armenian Defence Ministry further reads:
«Neither the restrained stance adopted by the Armenian Armed Forces so far, nor the reactions of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen and the international community with the aim of supporting the conflict resolution process have in no ways contributed to honoring the ceasefire regime by the adversary, and even worse – create the illusion of military superiority for them, pushing for undertaking even more adventures in that atmosphere of impunity.»
The Defence Ministry of the Republic of Armenia declares, that the consistent escalation of the situation by the adversary, which periodically causes losses of human life, as well as the unaddressed criticism and concerns expressed by the international community, are unacceptable. Therefore, in order to silence the adversary, to prevent further actions, as well as support the negotiation process the Armenian Armed Forces will from now on employ adequate means of targeting by artillery and rocket fire, keeping the Azerbaijani military units, places of their installation, movements of personnel and arms under permanent targeting».
The official statement further reminds, that for first time since the ceasefire regime was established in 1994, the Azerbaijani armed forces have used 122mm artillery, firing not at the military posts on the frontline, but the regular army units installed in the rear positions.
