Edward Nalbandyan, Victoria Nuland discuss Karabakh conflict settlement
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan met in New York with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, according the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry. The sides expressed satisfaction at the high level of bilateral relations, noting the importance of the visa facilitation agreement that took effect in January 2015.
The interlocutors discussed the prospects for developing the economic ties. In this context, the role of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement signed in May was pointed out. An exchange of opinions took place regarding the upcoming inaugural meeting of the Armenia-US Trade and Investment Council.
At the request of Victoria Nuland, the Armenian foreign minister spoke about the constitution reform in Armenia. The meeting agenda also included issues of cooperation in international structures.
The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State thanked Armenia for active participation in peacekeeping operations.
The sides exchanged views on the Karabakh conflict settlement process. Minister Nalbandyan presented the situation in the aftermath of flagrant ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan. V. Nuland expressed deep concern over heightened tensions and stressed the need to observe the ceasefire.
The interlocutors also discussed issues related to the fight against terrorism, Middle East developments, and ethnic minority rights protection.
