Ceasefire agreement negated, says the head of Public Council at Armenian Defense Ministry
The ceasefire agreement signed in 1994 between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides is negated, and it is becoming impossible to speak of a truce due to the consistent nature of violations and the constant tension, Chairman of Public Council adjunct to Armenian Defense Ministry Gegham Harutyunyan said at a press conference today when commenting on the latest border incidents.
In his words, the Azerbaijani authorities are undertaking actions of a terrorist nature, while ignoring the opinion of the international community and its own obligations.
G. Harutyunyan expressed confidence that in this way Baku is trying to achieve a solution of the Karabaklh conflict to its advantage and inclusion of Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
“When any political means of resolving the problem are blocked, then a way of using force opens. If Azerbaijan persistently follows that insane path and declares a war, then the country will achieve the same result as in early 1990,” he said.
According to Gegham Harutyunyan, the frontline situation remains tense now, but tension in border regions of Armenia’s Tavush province has eased somewhat compared with the past few days, although firing continues.
“Azerbaijan is changing the manner of its actions, with not only frontline soldiers, but also border villages, residents. and military units in the rear being targeted. Azerbaijani constantly escalates tension,” Gegham Harutyunyan stressed.
