Armenian PM attends opening of Olympic village in Yerevan
Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan attended today the opening ceremony of an Olympic village in Yerevan, according to the government press service.
Among those present were President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-¬Sabah, President of the European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey, President of Armenia's National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan, officials, representatives of the sports world, and guests.
The premier toured the Olympic village and familiarized himself with the conditions of a 7,500 square meter sports base designed for over 300 athletes.
The head of government was informed that the village built in line with international standards has gyms for wrestling, judo, taekwondo, boxing, weightlifting and playing sports, as well as a center for sports medicine and an anti-doping service. There is a hotel for 320 athletes. The base also includes a swimming pool and athletic fields.
A post stamp dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) was cancelled with the participation of H. Abrahamyan.
The office of NOC of Armenia is expected to move to the Olympic village.
