President Sargsyan: Azerbaijani regime needs images from the LOC to divert the attention of its public
“The dictatorial regime [of Azerbaijan] made disgraceful repression an instrument to strangle the people’s wrath as the oil-based economy obviously falters…. Now it needs images from the Line of Contact in order to divert the attention of its own public”, - said Serzh Sargsyan speaking at the 70th UN General Assembly on September 29, 2015.
According to the official transcript of the speech, President Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia elaborated about the recent escalation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, reminding the Assembly about the deliberate targeting of civilians by the Azerbaijani armed forces both across the Line of Contact in Nagorno Karabakh Republic and along the state border with Armenia.
“The peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem remains one of the most salient issues in our region. I shall note that aggressive policy pursued by Azerbijan resulted in the absence of any meaningful progress in the process of negotiations for the conflict settlement, and the situation drifts towards increasing tension. The dictatorial regime of the country made disgraceful repression an instrument to strange the people’s wrath as the oil=based economy obviously falters, and even that, nevertheless, it considers being inefficient. Now it needs images from the Line of Contact in order to divert the attention of its own public. I would like to draw the attention of this Assembly to the fact that Azerbaijan, besides various provocative actions, has now started to apply large caliber artillery firing at the peaceful settlements of the bordering districts of both the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh Republic”, - Serzh Sargsyan concluded.
