CSTO Deputy Sec Gen: Armenian troops capable of reacting properly to Azerbaijan’s provocations
The armed forces and the national security system of Armenia can react properly to provocations launched by Azerbaijan in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Valery Semerikov told reporters today at the opening of ‘Unbreakable Brotherhood 2015” drills of CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces in Armenia.
In his words, the statutory bodies of CSTO do not overlook the existing situation.
In response to reporters’ remark about the absence of a reaction by CSTO to provocative actions of Azerbaijan, V. Semerikov said that a decision of CSTO Collective Security Council is required for any action related to the use of the collective forces. “As regards the fact that there was no reaction, perhaps not so much time has passed,” he noted.
Semerikov also said that the heads of CSTO member states paid great attention to the speech of Armenian President at the Dushanbe session of CSTO Collective Security Council when Serzh Sargsyan indicated heightened tensions on Armenia-Azerbaijan border and the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Besides, according to Semerikov, Armenian Foreign Edward Nalbandyan presented the situation at the meeting of FMs of CSTO member states in New York on September 26.
