MP: Statements of Armenian constitutional reform opponents are idle talk
At the rally in Yerevan yesterday, members of “No’ front did not discuss the essence of the constitutional reform or explain the meaning of amendments, but they were engaged in idle talk, MP of the faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Sukias Avetisyan told Panorama.am
“No’ front composed of representatives of political parties and civil society of Armenia which are opposed to the constitutional reform held a rally in Liberty Square of Yerevan on October 2, followed by a march through the central streets of the capital city. The rally participants said they intend to stage a march to the National Assembly of Armenia on Monday, October 5 when the parliament is expected to vote on the draft amendments to the Constitution. The event is scheduled for twelve noon local time.
When commenting on statements made at the rally to the effect that the whole public, including RPA, is allegedly against the constitutional reform, S. Avetisyan called it “cheap talk”.
“The constitutional reform was discussed with all MPs of the Republican Party. Don’t consider it as your right to speak on behalf of society, the society will express their opinion on the referendum day,” Avetisyan said.
He expressed regret that “there is no opposition” in the country, and protests, including those in Gyumri, fail to attract many people.
‘The current opposition forces exhausted their possibilities, it is time for them to make way for constructive opposition whose members will think about the state’s future,” the deputy said.
