Edward Nalbandyan: Armenia attaches importance to peacekeeping operations
A durable peace can be achieved not by force, but through political decisions taken with the involvement of all the parties to the conflict, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said today at the International Forum for the Challenges of Peace Operations held in Yerevan.
The foreign minister stressed that Armenia attaches great importance to its participation in peacekeeping operations and makes a significant contribution, while developing bilateral cooperation in parallel with that.
When speaking about the Karabakh problem, E. Nalbandyan said that the negotiations are being conducted within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group whose activities are mediatory and also include effective preventive mechanisms.
Thus, according to Nalbandyan, the proposal of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs regarding the creation of investigation mechanisms of ceasefire violations may become an efficient mechanism for preventing the escalation.
“The mandates and missions should not be based on general approaches and models, but they shall be worked out in a specific way, in order to assist the implementation of political decisions.
An individual approach should be taken to each situation,” the Armenian foreign minister said.
