Police release participants of protest against constitutional reform in Armenia
Employees of the Office of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender (HRD) talked with the activists taken today to Yerevan’s Arabkir police station. They were detained during a protest staged by constitutional reform opponents outside the Armenian parliament.
‘No’ initiative held a protest against the constitutional reform outside the parliament today, while the MPs were voting on the draft constitutional amendments. 20 activists were taken to a police station.
Deputy Human Rights Defender Armen Grigoryan talked to the chief of that police station. “The police station chief said there were still some technical issues to be solved, after which all those detained will be set free,” he said, adding that HRD Office will give an assessment of today’s events after becoming familiar with details of the situation, comparing information provided by the police and the activists, and getting an answer to a written inquiry.
Panorama.am also learned from the police press service that 20 activities have already been released. “One of them expressed a wish to remain and give an explanation,” an employee of the press service said.
