Deputy police chief of Yerevan accuses opposition MP Zurabyan of lying
A member of the legislative body should admonish protesters in order to prevent illegal actions, but MP of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) faction evon Zurabyan just lied, Deputy Police Chief of Yerevan Valery Osipyan said during a briefing today.
‘No’ initiative staged a protest against the constitutional reform in Armenia outside the parliament today , while Armenian MPs were voting on the draft constitutional amendments. 21 activists were detained. The head of ANC faction urged protesters to go the Arabkir police station where the activists were taken. He said that ‘No’ front should present the consequence of their further steps, but the movement missed that opportunity as activists were detained and could not make statements.
“Zurabyan was trying to create an impression that he is innocent and law enforcers are to blame. That is not the case,” Osipyan said.
In his words, law enforcers tried to talk with Zurabyan and other ANC deputies, but they gave an ultimatum. “They said we will have a talk later,” the deputy police chief said.
