Expert explains why Azerbaijani users migrate to Armenian news websites
The recent escalation of the situation on Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan revealed to some extent the problems in Armenia’s media field, media expert Samvel Martirosyan told a press conference today.
In his words, self-regulation methods can be used to deal with the existing problems. “You need to trust those news websites, which have their editors and indicate the address of the editorial office, its phones,” Martirosyan said.
He also spoke about Azerbaijani news websites, noting that Azerbaijan’s media field is strictly controlled, and there are no opposition media outlets there, except for a TV channel based abroad, while those reporters who cooperate with that channel are being persecuted in Azerbaijan.
“This situation has led to Azerbaijani users migrating to Armenian websites,” Samvel Martirosyan said adding: “More or less conscious residents of Azerbaijan are now aware that one cannot find truthful information in Azerbaijani mass media”.
The expert also discussed the creation of pseudo-Armenian websites by the Azerbaijani side with the aim of spreading misinformation via them.
