Aghvan Vardanyan: Constitutional reform referendum in Armenia should be as transparent and fair as possible
It is important that the referendum on the constitutional reform in Armenia be conducted in the most transparent, free and fair manner and in an atmosphere of trust, the secretary of ARF-Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) Party’s parliamentary faction Aghvan Vardanyan said during a briefing in the National Assembly today.
In his words, in any case some people will voice criticism and declare that the referendum was not free and fair. However, ARFD party members consider it their duty to do everything possible so as to create the best possible conditions for a referendum, A. Vardanyan said.
During the propaganda campaign, ARFD will continue meeting with its regional structures. Aghvan Vardanyan said at the same time that ARFD will not join ‘Yes’ camp during the campaign ahead of the national referendum on the constitutional reform. “We are not going to join any force as we have our sound arguments,” he noted.
Yesterday, on October 8, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan – based on Article 111 clauses 2 and 5 of the Constitution, Article 7 part 6 of the Law on Referendum, and the National Assembly’s decision on its consent for the draft constitutional amendments to be put to referendum - signed a decree, setting December 6, 2015, as the date for a referendum on the constitutional reform.
