Electronic monitoring of prisoners to be introduced in Armenia as part of probation service
Electronic monitoring of prisoners and convicts will be used as an alternative control measure in Armenia’s probation service, Hayk Khemchyan – the head of Support to the Establishment of Probation Service in Armenia project implemented by the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan – said at a press conference today.
Electronic monitoring includes control over people’s movement and location by using modern technology.
“We should choose an option of electronic monitoring which is the most suitable in case of Armenia,” he said.
Support to the Establishment of Probation Service in Armenia project is conducting today a seminar, during which judges, prosecutors, lawyers and NGO members will be familiarized with European countries’ electronic monitoring experience. The purpose of the seminar is to ask the experts help determine the most preferable type of electronic monitoring for Armenia.
