Gyumri mass murder case: Valery Permyakov found sane in new exam conducted by Armenian side
Panorama.am has learned that a psychiatric examination found that Russian 102nd military base’s conscript Valery Permyakov - the suspect in the mass murder of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri this year – is sane. The exam was conducted by the Armenian side at the request of the Avetisyan’s relatives who were recognized as legal successors of the aggrieved party.
During a talk with Panorama.am, lawyer Yerem Sargsyan who represents the legal successors of the aggrieved party neither confirmed nor denied this information. He only said that the results of the exam are already known, and a press conference with the participation of other lawyers is expected to take place soon so as to give details.
As was reported, a Russian military court held a trial on August 12 in the Armenian city of Gyumri. Valery Permyakov, a soldier of the Russian military base in Armenia, received 10 years in high security prison for desertion and theft of weapons. The case on mass murder will be examined later by an Armenian court. Lawyer Lusine Sahakyan, a representative of legal successors of the aggrieved party, said earlier that a conclusion could be drawn from Permyakov’s behavior at the trial that he had some problems so they intended to request a psychiatric examination of Permyakov by the Armenian experts.
