IDF fires artillery at Syrian army
In response to the three "spillover" mortar shells that struck the northern Golan Heights on Tuesday morning, the IDF launched artillery strikes at two Syrian army sites in the central Syrian Golan Heights.
The IDF Spokesperson Unit said in a statement that the strike was a response to the Syrian "spillover" mortar fire, according to Israelnationalnews.com.
"The IDF views the Syrian army as responsible for what occurs in its territory, and will not tolerate any attempt to harm the sovereignty of the state of Israel and the security of its residents," added the IDF.
The mortar fire on Tuesday morning took place shortly before 9 a.m. The strikes landed in open territory in the northern Golan Heights, causing no wounds or damage.
As the fighting continues and intensifies on the Syrian side of the border, there have been numerous "spillover" incidents in recent months, along with some strikes that were not merely strays.
