Armenian Justice Ministry to present bill on probation service on October 21
On October 21, Armenian Justice Ministry will officially present the draft law on the probation service. An opinion of an international expert of the Council of Europe along with some proposals and recommendations has also been received, and it will be taken into account, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia Arthur Hovhannisyan told Panorama.am.
In his words, the proposals and recommendations of the European expert are largely due to differences between Armenian legislation and European laws. He at the same time noted that there are no striking differences between the probation service to be established soon in Armenia and the existing one in Europe.
To remind, a bill has been drafted based on the Armenian government-approved concept of the introduction of a probation service in Armenia. A discussion of the bill will be held next week, with stakeholders’ participation, Deputy Justice Minister of Armenia Suren Krmoyan recently told reporters. He said the bill was examined by international experts, and the results will be presented during the working discussion.
A pilot program on the introduction of the probation service was earlier launched in Armenia. Pilot units of the probation service are starting to operate in the city of Vanadzor and Yerevan’s Shengavit administrative district.
