Grapes grown in Armenia actively exported, purchased by processing companies
Over 300 thousand tons of grapes was produced in Armenia as of October 22, 2015, which exceeds the index for the same date of last year - 261 thousand tons. 209,000 tons of grapes has been purchased as of today compared with 184,000 tons in 2014, Armenian Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.
8,000 tons of grapes were exported from Armenia as of October 22 – against 5,200 tons during the same period of last year.
The harvest, procurement and exports of grapes are continuing.
As was reported, on September 25 farmers of Voskepat, Noyakert, Yeghegnadzor, Taperakan, Lusarat, Small Vedi and other villages of Armenia’s Ararat province blocked an interstate motorway with trucks loaded with grapes in connection with the refusal to buy their grapes due to its uselessness. The farmers agreed to unblock Yerevan-Ararat road after a meeting with Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. The prime minister also announced later that the crops will not remain unharvested as the government worked out special measures to support both farmers and processing companies.
