US Embassy in Armenia confirms Russian citizen’s intrusion onto compound
When contacted by Panorama.am, the press service of the United States Embassy to Armenia confirmed the information that yesterday a Russian citizen of Armenian descent intruded into the US embassy compound, threatening to harm himself.
“Yesterday afternoon, Embassy security staff observed an individual making an unauthorized intrusion onto the Embassy compound. The Embassy security staff quickly secured the compound, apprehended the individual, determined that he seemed to be disturbed, and turned him over to the Armenian police. We thank the Armenian authorities for their swift and effective response and are continuing to closely coordinate,” the Embassy’s press service told Panorama.am.
Pastinfo news agency reported earlier that an ethnic Armenian man holding Russian citizenship intruded yesterday into the US Embassy compound and threatened to commit suicide. It was noted that the man, 30, entered the embassy compound by scaling a fence According to the news agency, the man put a knife to his throat and demanded a meeting with the U.S. ambassador, saying that otherwise he would kill himself. The incident is under investigation.
