Armenian ombudsman, opposition MP engage in verbal duel on topic of ‘pleasure’
The Armenian parliament discussed today the Human Right Defender Karen Andreasyan’s report on the activities of Human Rights Defender of Armenia and violations of human rights and freedoms in the country in 2014.
During debates, MP of the opposition faction ‘Armenian National Congress’ (ANC) Gagik Jangiryan told Karen Andreasyan: “You are a young lawyer and you have voiced a lot of problems during your activities, but you also admitted that only a small number of them is solved in practice: you just state them. I think you do not enjoy your work because of being unable to achieve solution of concrete problems – that is, you have no levers. Didn’t you wish to resign?”
Karen Andreasyan replied that he has no intention of resigning because he does his job as efficiently as possible within the limits of social and legal possibilities of the current historical period.
“I will consider that issue when I see that someone does this work better in the present situation. As regards pleasure, I think that hardly anyone can get pleasure from such bitter work. I felt satisfaction, and I will tell you when it happened: when you are able to help even one person out of a hundre. I would like those present here the feel the same when helping at least one individual a day,” the human rights defender said in response.
