Armenian president participates in sitting of Nuclear Energy Safety Council
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met today with Adolf Birkhofer, President of Nuclear Energy Safety Council adjunct to Armenian President. A. Birkhofer arrived in Armenia for the 14th regular sitting of the Council, the presidential press service reports.
At the meeting held at the Government Reception House, S. Sargsyan and A. Birkhofer discussed scheduled work aimed at improving the safety of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) and measures envisaged by the program on extending the service life of ANPP’s second power unit.
The interlocutors also addressed issues related to the construction of a new unit of ANPP and cooperation with IAEA, including as part of OSART mission.
Following the meeting with Adolf Birkhofer, President Sargsyan attended a sitting of Nuclear Energy Safety Council at Government Reception House where he made a speech of welcome.
The acting director of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant M. Vardanyan gave a report about the plant ‘s work, followed by a report by Chairman of State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee Ashot Martirosyan.
