Ruling party of Armenia has no intention of using administrative recourse ahead of referendum, MP says

Ahead of the upcoming referendum on the constitutional reform in Armenia, members of the central campaign office of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) hold meetings every day to discuss the action plan, the head of RPA’s parliamentary faction Vahram Baghdasaryan said during a briefing today.

On October 24 the central campaign office of ‘Yes’ front of the ruling RPA held a regular sitting over the constitutional referendum due in the winter. The sitting was conducted by the office head, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. Panorama.am learned from Ruben Tadevosyan in charge of RPA’s organizational work that Vigen Sargsyan, Karen Karapetyan, Hovhannes Hovsepyan, Armen Yeritsyan, Levon Yolyan and Vahram Baghdasaryan were elected as deputy heads of the campaign office at the sitting, while Vigen Sargsyan was appointed in charge of the office’s campaign. The tactics and schedule of campaigning were clarified, with the necessary instructions given.

In this connection, reporters asked V. Baghdasaryan today why people who have administrative levers were included in the campaign office of ‘Yes’ front. Baghdasaryan replied that it was done, taking into account their experience as organizers.

“Yesterday the office members met with heads of Armenian regions, and a meeting with MPs elected under a majoritarian system is due today,” he added.

“Whoever is included in the campaign office, those people have held some position or other, and in any event you would say that they are using their administrative resources.  We do not aim to use administrative resource. We are engaged in organizational activities,” V. Baghdasaryan told reporters.

He added: “If people holding secondary positions were included in our office, reporters would say that Republican Party of Armenia does take the referendum seriously, but when first persons of RPA act as members of its campaign office, you ask us why we do so. We stress the importance of the constitutional reform and should organize everything in such a way that no aspect will remain vulnerable – the international community is following this process”.y why people who have administrative levers were included in the campaign office of ‘Yes’ front.
