Iran names first female ambassador since 1979
For the first time in 37 years, Iran has appointed a female ambassador since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran's ISNA news agency reported Thursday, according to rudaw.net.
Marziyeh Afkham, who was serving as a spokesperson for foreign ministry, was appointed as ambassador to Malaysia and is expected to start duty in Kuala Lumpur soon.
Afkham becomes only the second female ambassador in the country's history of Iran and the first since government policies were changed after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The only other female ambassador was Mehrangiz Dolatshahi, who served in Denmark in the 1970s.
