Government to assist Aygehovit farmers unable to gather crops due to Azerbaijani gunfire
At the session today the Armenian government took a decision to allocate 161 million drams from the reserve fund as compensation for residents of the border village of Aygehovit in Tavush province. Aygehovit residents failed to harvest grapes because of gunfire opened by Azerbaijani troops.
Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said that Azerbaijan has recently intensified ceasefire violations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, in particular near Aygehovit village.
The harvesting of grapes ended in Aygehovit 15 days ago, but the Azerbaijani side targets vineyards of 46 farms, preventing local farmers from gathering the crops, the minister said.
According to estimates, the damage done to 22.62 hectares of grapes totaled 161 million drams.
The prime minister of Armenia said for his part that border settlements are a focus of the government’s attention. “It was impossible to harvest grapes on those 22 hectares so we decided to compensate for the damage,” he said.
