Italian city of Ravenna recognizes Armenian Genocide
The city of Ravenna, Italy, has recognized the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, according to the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry.
The resolution that the Ravenna City Council unanimously adopted on October 22 says that considering the relevant petition by the Union of Armenians of Italy as well as the fact that this tragedy of the Armenian people has been recognized as “genocide” by the United Nations Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the European Parliament, Chamber of Deputies of Italy, and Pope Francis—in his remarks during the Holy Mass on April 12 at the St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican in connection with the Armenian Genocide Centennial — the Ravenna City Council recognizes the Armenian Genocide and expresses its solidarity with the Armenian people, on the 100th anniversary of the genocide.
