Armenian president offers condolences on crash of bus en route from Moscow to Yerevan
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan offered his condolences over the accident, in which a passenger bus carrying Armenian citizens from Moscow to Yerevan overturned on M4 ‘Don’ interstate highway near Tula, Russia, the presidential press service reported.
“It is with deep pain that I learned of the crash of a bus en route from Moscow to Yerevan and its irreversible consequences. The Armenian people, each of us suffered an immense loss last night. At this difficult time I express my condolences and support to the families and friends of those killed in the crash. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Serzh Sargsyan said in a statement.
In connection with the bus crash near Tula, the Armenian president instructed Armenia’s competent law enforcement agencies to start the necessary legal procedures in order to establish the circumstances of the accident in cooperation with the relevant agencies of Russia.
Serzh Sargsyan also told the competent bodies to examine the cause of the bus accident and do more comprehensive studies with the aim of submitting a program aimed at increasing the safety of interstate bus services operated from Armenia.
The Armenian government and the embassy of Armenia in Russia were instructed to provide assistance to the families of those killed and injured in the accident and organize their medical care.
The bus accident occurred at 2:12 am Tuesday morning in Tula region of Russia. The bus en route from Moscow to Yerevan was carrying over 60 people, all of them Armenian citizens. The accident left 8 people dead and 48 others injured, with 11 of them being kept in intensive care units. A criminal case was opened, and an investigation is underway.
