Bodies of pilots killed in cargo plane crash in South Sudan to be flown to Armenia
Armenian Foreign Ministry asked Russian Foreign Ministry to assist with the receipt of documents and help transport to Armenia the bodies of crew members of Antonov 12 plane that crashed in South Sudan.
Russian Foreign Ministry said it will assist with the matter through the Russian ambassador in South Sudan.
As was reported, a Russian-built Antonov-12 transport plane crashed Wednesday shortly after takeoff from the airport in Juba, South Sudan. Three people – all of them citizens of South Sudan – survived out of 18 people on board the plane. Six crew members, a Russian and five Armenians, were killed in the crash. People were also killed on the ground when the plane came down near a group of fishermen. According to the latest data of RIA Novosti, rescuers recovered 36 bodies at the crash site.
Armenian Foreign Ministry released the list of Armenian members of the plane crew: chief pilot Gevorg Tovmasyan, co-pilot Samvel Hambartsumyan, flight engineer Samvel Mkrtchyan, and aircraft technicians Armen Antonyan and Suren Petrosyan.
