EU Delegation official: By granting preferences to Armenia, the EU expects reforms
There are only 14 beneficiary countries of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP+), and the European Union also granted such preferences to Armenia, which bears evidence of the attention given to Armenia, Jose Maria Medina Navarro - Deputy Head of Operations at the EU Delegation to Armenia – told reporters today.
He said that by giving such preferences to Armenia, the EU expects reforms to be implemented in the country (in spheres such as human rights, environmental protection), and reforms are currently underway.
The EU Delegation to Armenia held today an event for business community members who export goods to the EU or have the potential to do it. The event aims to improve the use of GSP+ scheme in Armenia and provide more information about export opportunities to the EU.
According to Mr. Navarro, they take measures to ensure greater involvement in the process as it is a good mechanism.
Asked whether there is a clash of interests, given Armenia’s membership of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the EU Delegation official ruled out such a clash, noting that it is an export market for Armenia and it has nothing to do with its membership in EAEU.
