ICRC conducts talks to organize meeting with Armenian woman who crossed into Azerbaijan
The Azerbaijani authorities confirmed information during a talk with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) that a female resident of Armenia crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Head of Communication Programs of ICRC Armenia Office Zara Amatuni told Panorama.am.
Panorama.am earlier reported that Lusik Abovyan, a 76-year-old resident of Koti village in Armenia’s Tavush province, crossed into Azerbaijani territory.
“We have already received confirmation of both sides that an Armenian female citizen crossed the border and found herself in the territory of Azerbaijan. Following the confirmation of the sides, ICRC is working to get an opportunity for an immediate meeting with the Armenian citizen,” Zara Amatuni said.
In her words, no progress has been made so far in negotiations with the Azerbaijani authorities. Z. Amatuni did not say under what conditions the woman crossed the border.
For his part, the administrator of Koti village Felix Melikyan told Panorama.am that Lusik Abovyan has four children and also grandchildren. He described the living conditions of the family as normal.
“I cannot say how it happened. An investigation will answer that question. As far as I know, she had no health problems,” F. Melikyan noted.
